THE DIRECT IMPACT OF YOUR GIFTS:
Campaign Initiatives Supported by FY 07 Annual Giving

The Fund for Teaching and Innovation


Goal:
to develop new approaches to large introductory courses in such areas of mathematics, English, chemistry and psychology.


Results:
$100,000 for graduate assistants to support faculty teaching introductory courses; $30,000 to support faculty implementing the newly adopted writing-intensive requirements

 

The Fund for Academic and Career Success


Goal: to provide support for additional academic advisors, tutors and counseling services.


Results: $7,700 for a graduate intern to assist with career advising and programming, on-line career assistance subscriptions, and supplemental funding for a Employer Relations Coordinator focusing on student employment and part-time jobs

 

The Graduate Student Success Fund


Goal: to provide support systems for current graduate students and award dissertation fellowships to ensure the completion of Ph.D.


Results: $16,000 to support Dissertation Fellowships (awards to enable grad students to complete their degrees); $4,000 to support scholarships and fellowships in the Graduate School

 

Living Learning Community Expansion


Goal: to increase the number of these supportive communities to serve more students.


Results: $30,000 to support the living learning communities

 

Black and Gold Scholarships


Goal: to support one student through four years at UMBC


Results: $15,000 to support five Black and Gold Scholars
