The Legends of Excellence brunch, which was held on April 14, 2007 in the UMBC University Center Ballroom, acknowledged the extraordinary individual contributions of faculty and staff who have been instrumental in the lives of UMBC's African-American and Latino students over the past 40 years.

The 2007 award winners were (click on name to read honoree profile):

• Ms. Betty Glascoe, former Director of Career Services Center and Special Asst. to the VP of Student Affairs
• Dr. Daphne Harrison, Professor Emeritus and former Chair of Africana Studies
• Ms. Cynthia M. Hill, Associate Provost
• Dr. Acklyn Lynch, former Professor and former Chair of Africana Studies
• Dr. Ana Maria Schwartz, Chair of Modern Languages and Linguistics
• With a special award being presented to the National Society of Black Engineers, UMBC Chapter, in recognition of its service to UMBC and the surrounding community, academic excellence and collaborative efforts.

Special performances by the Agua Fria band and the UMBC Gospel Choir.

Funds raised at the event supported the Second Generation Scholarship and newly-created Esperanza Scholarship Fund, which recognize outstanding students who have demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of minorities. Click here to make an online gift to either of these scholarships.
