UMBC OUTSTANDING ALUMNI OF THE YEAR AWARDS
Nomination Criteria

Two types of awards will be given by the UMBC Alumni Association: Alumnus/Alumna of the Year awards and a Distinguished Service award. More specific information about each award follows below. The deadline for 2009 nominations is June 30, 2009.  

The Alumna/us of the Year Award is given to a UMBC graduate who has brought distinction to the University through personal and professional achievement. 

Awards can presented in each of the following academic areas: Engineering & Information Technology; Humanities; Natural & Mathematical Sciences; Social & Behavioral Sciences; and Visual & Performing Arts.  

To be considered for this award, the nominee must have:

• Graduated from UMBC no less than five years ago (2004 or earlier).
• Achieved prominence in his or her field.
• Ideally, demonstrated involvement and support of UMBC and/or the Alumni Association.

The Distinguished Service Award may be given to an alumna/us who has demonstrated dedication to UMBC through exceptional service to UMBC, its students, and alumni.

To be considered for this award, the nominee must have:

• Graduated from UMBC no less than two years ago (2007 or earlier).
• Supported UMBC or the Alumni Association through either a single act or a record of service.

Members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors and past recipients of any Alumni of the Year awards are not eligible for these awards.

Nominees not selected for 2009 will be reconsidered for two consecutive years. Each year, personal and professional information may be updated.
