Congratulations Coach Monroe! I am so happy for you and your family, your UMBC family and friends who have supported you and the UMBC Men's Basketball program. I was thrilled with stunned envy and joy to watch the Retrievers at the RAC win the American East Conference Tournament and finally win a sound victory on the floor earning a first time trip to the NCAA tournament. Mr. Monroe you took the UMBC Men's Basketball team their first--no matter what the future holds for you--that can never be taken away. You made us all so very proud of your hard work and dedication and it certainly reflected last Saturday. I and many others have long waited for that first trip to the NCAA tournament. As a member of the UMBC Men's Basketball program as a team manager for Coach Hawkins tenure from the years 1989-1992, I have grown to love the UMBC Men's Basketball program and have finally experienced the wonderful joy that I saw through the passionate hearts and spirits of those young men who allowed us all to be part of history. Good luck to you sir -- may God bless you, your family and our fine UMBC Men's Basketball team. -- Brian Sabourin [formerly Brian Doyle] '91, psychology
