Where do I park during Homecoming?
Parking will be available on Thursday at the metered Walker Avenue Garage, Commons lot or Lot #10 until 9 p.m.; after that time, free parking is available at any of the campus lots or on the loop.
On Friday, parking is available at the metered Commons lot or Lot #10 until 3:30 p.m.; after that time, free parking is available at any campus lot or on the loop.
On Saturday and Sunday, free parking is available at any lot or around the loop.
Can I purchase walk-in tickets for any events?
Comedy Show tickets can be purchased on Saturday, October 17, at the Homecoming registration table in The Commons between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. After that time, tickets can be purchased in the RAC. Staff cannot guarantee ticket availability at either time, and strongly suggest pre-registration using the www.umbc.edu/homecoming site.
Other ticketed Homecoming events will have walk-in registration, as well. Again, staff cannot guarantee ticket availability for walk-ins for any event.
How will I get the tickets I purchased online for Homecoming events?
If you are an alum: You can pick up your tickets for the Comedy Show at the Homecoming registration table in The Commons on Saturday, October 17, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. After this time, tickets will be at the Retriever Activities Center box office beginning at 6:15 p.m. Please be prepared to present ID. Tickets will not be mailed to registrants.
Although registration is required for the Alumni Awards Reception, the Tailgate Lunch/Men’s Soccer Game, Honors College Reception, Getting Gritty Networking Night, and Old School Throwback Party, tickets will not be issued; please be prepared to present ID at the check-in for each event.
If you are a student: Tickets for the Comedy Show can be purchased at the Commons Information Desk. If you plan to attend the Alumni Tailgate Lunch, the cost is $10.00 per person and you can pay on site (please note that you must be 21 and bring 2 forms of ID if you would like to drink). There are no tickets for the Talent Show (first come/first-serve), which is free. Students cannot purchase tickets for the Gettin’ Gritty Happy Hour or Old School Throwback Party.
What’s the weather policy for Homecoming?
Homecoming will happen rain or shine. There will be no refunds.
Do students need to pay for athletics events?
UMBC students do not need to pay for athletic events, but they will need to show their student IDs to enter. Students will have to pay to access the Tailgate Lunch preceding the Men’s Soccer Game on Saturday.
What do I need to bring to be able to enter Flat Tuesdays Pub in The Commons, or to access the Beer Garden at the Tailgate Party?
Guests planning on visiting Flat Tuesdays Pub for Open Pub hours, the Gettin’ Gritty Networking Night, or the Old School Throwback Party will need to present two forms of ID. This applies to anyone entering the pub, even if they do not plan to drink. Anyone planning on drinking at the Tailgate Party must also show two forms of ID. There will be no exceptions.
Pub attendees must be 21 years old or over and must be accompanied by a member of the UMBC community (faculty, staff, student, alumnus/a).
Where can UMBC students purchase tickets to events?
Students can purchase tickets to any Homecoming events, including reduced-price tickets to the Comedy Show with Demetri Martin, at the Commons Information Desk.
Do I need to purchase tickets to Midnight Madness?
No. Midnight Madness is free for all members of the UMBC community.
Will there be a Homecoming registration or information table?
Yes. There will be an information table available on Saturday, October 17th from 10-6 p.m. in the Commons. Please stop by to get a campus map, Homecoming t-shirt, schedule of events, purchase tickets for the Demetri Martin Comedy show, register for the Gettin’ Gritty Happy Hour or Old School Throwback Party.
What if I didn’t register in advance for the Alumni Tailgate Lunch?
There will be limited spaces available on-site for the tailgate lunch so you are encouraged to register in advance at www.umbc.edu/homecoming. We will accept payment at the door until capacity is reached.
Can I register on-site for the 5K Dawg Chase?
Yes, you can register on-site. Registration begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, October 17th and the race begins at 9 a.m.
Where can I get a bite to eat on campus?
In The Commons, the Mesquite Ranch BBQ and Grill will be open on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The dining hall, True Grits, will be open Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for brunch, and from 4:30 to 7 p.m. for dinner. The Tailgate Lunch will happen next to the Soccer Field from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; walk-in ticketing is available.
Will the bookstore be open?
Yes, the bookstore will be open on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Wear black and gold to receive 20% off any merchandise using the UMBC logo.
